The description of this video states that this cover was recorded in "Jay's basement," one take, no overdubs, no auto-tune. It's a fairly impressive recording and mix for that to be the case. It doesn't sound like studio quality; it's much more raw than that, and that's a compliment. Over produced music seems to be the norm anymore in popular music. The band has some downloads of original music up on their bandcamp.com page that sounds just as good and raw. I would highly recommend taking a listen. They're all good musicians, and the lead singer's voice is very unique.
The original song, released by Ace of Base, was a pretty big success for the band in 1993. In the US, the tune was certified Platinum, and it reached the #2 spot. In other parts of the world, the song saw the #1 spot in ten countries, and it was in the five in most other countries. The song was also a part of the band's album, The Sign, which contained their massive hit of the same name. This, in my opinion, is a much better song; I never cared for "The Sign."
