I picked this song since I hadn't ever posted one of Yoakam's songs. He's an artist that definitely crosses barriers with fans. I know several people who are not fans of country music by any means, but they are still professed Yoakam fans. I'm not sure why that is unless it's just the fact that he lends himself more to the honky-tonk side of things. It's definitely not cause it's something new and different. Yoakam's music has that Bakersfield sound for sure, drawing from his idol, Buck Owens.
I picked this particular video for a couple of reasons. The quality is a little worse than it would've been in its original broadcast, but not much, especially considering the quality of TV I would've been watching it on at the time. For anyone that wasn't around in the nineties, this is what TV looked and sounded like. It's not HD, that's for sure. Furthermore, for all the musicians and sound techs out there, you'll notice that there are actual monitors out on the floor, particularly here, a Peavey is what I saw. On award shows like this one - the 1994 ACM Awards - it's all in-ear systems nowadays. You won't see monitors laying around on the floor.
