The video above is part of the reason for this song's popularity. The mix of live action video and cartoons was cutting edge at the time. The very popular Who Framed Roger Rabbit, that used the same technology, was released the same year as the Billy Ocean tune and was a huge hit. Since that time, things have evolved, obviously, but for me, it has a great nostalgic feel.
The song is based off a line from Ringo Starr's "You're Sixteen." In that song, the subject walks out of Starr's dreams and into his arms. You can see the development to the Ocean song. The rhyme was easy enough to come to after you developed the concept. The song was a huge hit for Ocean, making it all the way to the #1 spot on the Hot 100. It also saw the top spot in several other countries, including Canada, Norway, and Australia.
