Just the Way You Are - Bruno Mars

This is a really different take on this song than the studio cut, and I'd say it's a huge improvement. It's not that I didn't enjoy the original take; I just enjoy this style of music a lot more. While the original cut was mostly just a drum beat and a piano riff with a little bass guitar added, this live version could easily have been recorded by a Motown artist in the 1960's. It's a part R&B and part lounge music, a classic Bruno mashing of styles. The chorus still manages to have the same power here that it does in the original cut, too, and the melody is still just as amazing.

This was the song that started Mars on his current path as a performer. "Just the Way You Are" was the debut single from his debut album, Doo-Wops and Holligans. Bruno gathered some inspiration from other classic, simple love ballads. He said of the song, "I'm a big fan of songs like Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful" and Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight," songs that go straight to the point. You know, there's no mind-boggling lyrics or twists to the story." "Just the Way You Are" definitely goes straight to the point, telling the love interest just how beautiful and perfect she is.
