Hook - Blues Traveler

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdz5kCaCRFM]

This is a clever little ditty about how the "hook" of a tune is more important than the song's meaning. The hook of a tune is that part that you walk around humming the rest of the day. Popper and crew are saying that if it's good enough, the singer can sing about whatever he wants, and it won't matter. He says so directly in the beginning of the tune. He also makes a nice reference to Peter Pan and Captain Hook, giving the song a second meaning. He says "no matter how much Peter loved her, what made the Pan refuse to grow, was that the Hook brings you back," which is true in more ways than one.
