I posted about Moore once before and commented that he doesn't quite fit the exact mold of the other top 40 country stars in his age group (i.e Eric Church, Jason Aldean). He seems to have something that grabs at the more traditional roots of country, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's the content of the songs, because I do believe that the stories and meanings in the songs are what's most important to the label of country music. He's not making claims in either of these songs about how country he really is, which is something new artists seem to feel the need to do. He may have songs in which he does do that, but not here. As a matter of fact, I'm sure he does in his song "Backwoods", but a song like that here or there isn't a major issue. It's when all your songs are about the same thing that you develop a problem.
Moore was a co-writer on the song with Brian Dean Maher and Jeremy Stover, and he then took the song to #51 on the Hot 100 and even higher on the country charts. He's taken a a good load of the writing on himself, having co-written eleven of the thirteen songs on his sophomore album, Outlaws Like Me. Two other singles preceeded "Last Day", "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" and "Bait a Hook".
