There is something about the night, isn't there? I've always been a night person myself, and that may play a part in this feeling. There's something that's just more romantic about the night. I realize that the need to go on dates in the evening during the week grows from being at work during the day, but on the other hand, we go in the evening on the weekends, too, usually.
Even when I've been on dates to places like amusement parks where you spend the majority of the day there, something about the falling of the night makes you more flirtatious and romantic. Maybe it's the idea that its dark and people cant see you acting "silly". Even when I was younger and we'd spend the day at the county fair, the evening and the night brought on the young lovers' spirit. This song of course is a little more grown up with its definition of "lovers". It's still the same idea, though.
This song was originally written by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen and first performed by the Patti Smith Group. The song was popular again when I was growing up with this cover version. It's the one that I'm familiar with and the one I'll always remember.
