Hakuna Matata as a Swahili phrase, which, as the song suggests, translates to "there are no worries." It was, of course, popularly used by Timon and Pumba in Disney's 32nd animated feature, The Lion King. It was written by Elton John (composition) and Tim Rice (lyrics). John and Rice composed the score for the film together in its entirety. The version above was later recorded by Cliff. It even became part of the hugely popular Broadway adaptation of the film. For those of you know humming the original version in your head, I've included it below.
The original is definitely the perfect fit for the movie soundtrack, allowing Nathan Lane (Timon) and Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa) to stretch their vocal chords and comedic talents. The scene with the bug eating makes me wonder how many kids went out and tried a few specimens of their own. I was always too grossed out by bugs to try it myself, but you know there had to be some brave kids out there who gave it a shot.
