Walking on Sunshine - Katrina & the Waves

You may notice that this song sounds a little different than what you're used to hearing. This original version was released in 1983, while the more popular version with the infamous horn track was released two years later. The song was written for the group, but not by the group. However, because of the way the rights and royalties for the song worked out upon release, the band shares the estimated $1,000,000.00-per-year fees made from advertisers who use the song.


This song has appeared in several movies, but the one that comes to mind for me is High Fidelity. Starring John Cusack as Rob and Jack Black as Barry, the movie starts out in a record store owned by Rob. We soon get Barry coming in to work with his special Monday Morning Tape in the hopes of cheering everyone up. You can see how that plays out in the clip below.
