There are tons of B-side cuts out there that become way more popular than their A-side counterparts. For example, yesterday's post was "Before You Accuse Me," the B-side to this Diddley release. "Accuse Me" became a much more popular song over the years than this one. Other B-sides that overshadowed their supposed-to-be-hits A-sides include: "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" by Hank Williams, "Peggy Sue" by Buddy Holly, "Roadhouse Blues" by The Doors, "Tequila" by The Champs, and the song that kicked off the era of rock 'n roll, "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets.
Diddley was one of the pioneers of taking blues music closer and closer to what would become known as rock 'n roll. His infusion of harder, driving rhythms played a significant role in that pioneering. He could also be spotted easily on stage by those who might not have otherwise recognized him through his use of a signature, rectangular-bodied guitar. He was induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and won many other awards and accolades throughout his career.
