Little Shop of Horrors - Cast

I never noticed until today how much this song sounds like the theme from A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, but then again, I haven't heard either song for a long time. The vocalist in the Scooby theme is even reminiscent of the voice of Audrey II (the blood-thirsty plan monster in the film), which is merely a coincidence, I assume.  This opening number also reminds me of the opening from Disney's Hercules, performed by the Muses. The similarities between that Disney opening and this one can probably be tied to one man: Alan Menken.

Menken, who I've written about before, was the composer for the Hercules film, and he and Howard Ashman developed the off-Broadway music that is the source material for this Frank Oz directed comedy. In turn, Menken and Ashman's musical was an adaptation of the 1960 film of the same name. So, the 1986 Little Shop of Horrors is an adaptation of an adaptation. I'm curious how much the original film is like this one. I'm probably not so curious that I'd actually watch it....or am I?
