Arabian Nights - Bruce Adler

The above version of this intro song from Disney's Aladdin has always been one of my favorites. I listened to the song and the opening narration that followed it on the CD so much growing up that I could recite the peddler's tale about the lamp from memory. I could probably still get through it today if we're being honest.

Robin Wililams, who voiced Genie, in the first and third installments of the series voiced the peddler for his speaking roles, but didn't contribute his singing vocals. It was in fact Bruce Adler. Adler is a successful Broadway actor whose only voice acting was this part and an unlisted voice part in Beauty and the Beast.

Some controversy arose from the song's line of "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face". So, the line was changed for subsequent printings of the soundtrack and the movie's home video release. It later appeared as the lines, "where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense". Either way sounds just fine melodically and lyrically. Below you can hear the opening narration to see how much of it you can remember.
