Heigh-Ho - The Seven Drawfs

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was Walt Disney's first full-length major motion picture. It set the standard for what was to come and still remains a classic today. It has stood the test of time well, and it's considered by many to be a great film in general, not just a great animated film.

With all its praise and accolades, though, it still leaves me with questions, mostly about the dwarfs. Why is it that they mine the diamonds? They're working out there all day, but they live in a tiny little house with no luxuries at all.  The diamonds must not be important to them. In the video above we see Dopey leave the key to the door securing the mined diamonds on a peg right beside the door.

Who are these dwarfs?  Are they brothers? What do they do with the diamonds? I'm sure in the original tale, as with many Disney re-imaginings, there's some dark reason for this. They're probably slaves to some greedy king or queen.  I just like to ponder such things sometimes.
