Everclear has been around since 1992, but their lineup has changed entirely on two different occasions with the exception of lead singer/guitarist Art Alexakis. A small change occurred in 1994 when the original drummer was replaced, but bigger changes were to come. In 2003 the other original members left the group, and Alexakis continued one with new members. He would make the change again in 2009 when the entire band left a second time.
This tune was released in 1997 with most of the founding members performing on the album So Much for the Afterglow. The song is a reflection on Alexakis' life, having endured his father leaving the family when Art was just a small child. The song climbed to #4 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, as well as #24 on the Mainstream Top 40.
