While My Guitar Gently Weeps - 2004 HOF All Star Jam

When you put together a concert like the yearly Hall of Fame inductions concert, you really have to have something special to offer up to top what happened the year before. Somebody decided to put Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison, and Prince on a stage together. It was a good choice, produced an awesome performance, and has become one of the most memorable induction concerts in recent memory with many claiming that Prince performs the "best guitar solo" ever. I don't know if Prince's solo is the best of all time, but it definitely is a memorable one.

Prince is a crazy talented performer for sure. Many people believe he's a musical genius, and I find it hard to argue with that sentiment. He's definitely a perfectionist, according to one source outside of the music industry. Kevin Smith speaks openly about his experiences with the artist formerly known as Prince on his An Evening With Kevin Smith DVD. The section of the DVD that covers Prince is in three parts on YouTube. The first part is below. Be warned! If you're not already aware, Smith tends to use a lot of language that might offend some people.

Enough about Prince, though... The performance above is a tribute to George Harrison, who, of course, wrote the "Weeps" , and it was originally recorded by the Beatles in 1968, with Eric Clapton recording the solo on the track through an unaccredited performance. The song was later ranked as one of Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time" at #7. It has become a classic in its own right.
