I'm in a Hurry (And Don't Know Why) - Alabama

Alabama was the heart of the music I grew up on. My dad performed in a local contemporary country group that covered a lot of Alabama and similar artists. This band is country, no doubt, but they touch on lots of other styles as well, from classical to blues to rock. This is just a good driving song with a solid message: slow down.  The band's basically telling you that you only live once, and you need to enjoy it.  That's a message I could take a little more seriously.

I've always understood the first basic idea of the song: being in a hurry. On the other hand, I never put much stock into the second half of the concept and title: and don't know why. Not only is the band talking about being in a hurry and how fast everything happens in today's society, they're pointing out the fact that most people don't even know why they're in a hurry. It's a deep subject to start thinking about, because it'll tie your thoughts right back around to contemplating what "it all means" to you and everyone else.
