Go to YouTube and search "Pure Imagination"; I dare you. There are so many videos where people have covered this song and used it in front of montages that it's ridiculous. I really like the idea of using it in front of the Pixar montage above. There are other really good ones, too. You can even find some trance remixes and a Maroon 5 cover.
This song ranks right up there with "Wonderful World", made famous of course by Louis Armstrong, and "Over the Rainbow", made famous by Judy Garland. These songs are really emotional, but they are emotional in a way that is different from most emotional songs. Most songs bring happiness or sadness. For me, all three of these songs bring a sense of contentment and peace with the world, and even more importantly, hope. I think that's why you see them used in these montages all the time. They evoke something within us that not many songs can: hope for and dreams of a better tomorrow.
This song of course was made famous in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wilder's portrayal of Willy Wonka was perfect. I can't imagine anyone capturing the character better. This song was perfect for the scene where the guests all enter the main part of Wonka's factory. I've decided through the course of writing this to let the music speak for itself mostly and not dissect the song. Also, I've included videos for "What a Wonderful World" and a Clapton cover of "Over the Rainbow". They just demand to be in the same posting.
