Superstition - Stevie Wonder

The Looking Glass - Marshall University's Rock Ensemble - that I play with does this song. Tonight, we played it twice, the second time as an encore. We had three guest artists to solo, and the song was really groovin'. Because of the double play through, it's really stuck in my head. It's a fun song to play, but Stevie's version isn't easy to cover.

The clavinet part that he plays and is heard at the start of the song is laid down probably at least five or six times on different tracks. You're actually hearing several different parts. Even he can't quite copy it in a live performance. There's just too much going on in the recording to emulate. This is one of the funkiest songs ever. It can really help you groove.

An additional note: Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of this tune is definitely worth a listen, too. Maybe it has to do with your name being Stevie. Wonder took his original version all the way to #1 on the charts. Vaughan's cover of the song is pretty well known, but it only reached #19 on the rock charts.
