The song has a lot of meaning for the band, the title referring to the "sea" of fans that stood before their stages. I'm not as interested in the meaning of this tune as the music itself, though. I love the 7/8 riff and how smooth it flows. It's the same riff repeated four times each time it comes around, and the rest of the song is in 4/4. It's still one of the catchest song I've heard. Even if you aren't a Zeppelin fan, you should still give this tune a listen. If you're a musician, learn how to play it. It may take a little time, but it's worth it based on what you'll learn along the way, expanding your horizon.
The song was released on the band's fifth studio album, Houses of the Holy. The album was something new for the band, their first to contain only original material. A large portion of the album was recorded at an estate owned by another famous performer, Mick Jagger. The strangest bit of info about the album is probably the fact that the title track was not finished in time to be released on its namesake and was released two years later.
