Run Around - Blues Traveler

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ousaiByU1ko]

This is one of those nineties tunes that was a top forty hit from a band that didn't have nearly as many on the charts as they deserved. The song has a solid groove and a pop kind of a feel. It's easy to see why it was as big of a hit as it was. John Popper's harmonica solo here is solid as always. My only complaint is that I'm not now nor have I ever been really sure about the meaning of the song.  The words zip by really quickly, and it's one of the few songs I've ever listened to that I had to try really hard to get the lyrics down. Even if you do take the time to figure out what Popper is saying, you realize it's just a string of references, everything from Poe to the Bible to classic songs.

I had never seen the video before I went looking to post it here, but I really like it, too. I love the idea of "Dorthy" seeing behind the curtain to find a band that is the real talent playing the music for the "pretty people" posing as musicians out front. It says a lot about the music industry and what you have to be - or at least what image you have to portray - to make it as a star a lot of the time.
