The Big Medley - Dream Theater

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhDPIgM1xQw]

The songs that compose this medley are great. When the group decided to put them together, it made them just a little better. I am a big fan of mash-ups and medleys, and this is by far one of the best I've ever heard. This is from Dream Theater's album A Change of Seasons. The song was recorded live in London. The only negative that comes from this is that every time I play "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'", I want to make the transition to the Dixie Dregs song like this recording does.

The song includes pieces from: "In the Flesh" by Pink Floyd, "Carry on my Wayward Son" by Kansas, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin" by Journey, "Cruise Control" by Dixie Dregs, and "Turn It On Again" by Genesis. They copy the songs almost note for note, but they manage to still put their own spin on it somehow. The whole album is very cool and different. It's exactly what you would expect from a group of Berklee music students.Though the group didn't finish school at Berklee, they definitely seem to have taken plenty with them from the experiences there. Forming the original band under the name Majesty, John Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy would create the beginnings of Dream Theater in 1985. While Myung and Petrucci are still active members of the group, their other founding member, Portnoy, has moved on to other projects.
