Jed Zeppelin is a country supergroup comprised of Diamond Rio, Steve Wariner, and Lee Roy Parnell. Diamond Rio brought the harmonies. Wariner brought some good guitar. Parnell is one of the masters of the slide guitar. The song sounds great. I like the original, but this is a great version, too. The group is full of talent. However, I don't know that they ever really did anything else in this collaborative form.
The song was originally written and recorded by Merle Haggard at the height of his early career and quickly became one of his signature songs. The song has a strong Bakersfield sound often heard in Haggard's music. The theme of the song is about saluting the blue-collar American worker. You can hear this song across the country in bars every weekend. Haggard is one of those artists that musicians from every genre know and respect.
