Proud Mary - Tina Turner ft. Cher & Elton John

This song is almost my perfect song in structure. It's real low down and dirty at the beginning, and then, it picks up at really kicks at the end. There have been other renditions, but this one takes the cake. The fact that you get to hear Elton John on piano is just an added bonus.  I'm not a big Cher fan, but she makes her appearance, too. Plus, Turner is still rocking pretty hard for her age. The intro that Turner does live has always come off as a little creepy to me. The whole "nice and easy" bit doesn't do it for me; however, you can's deny her voice and performance. She definitely puts on a show, and it's every time she does a live version of this tune.

The original take on the song goes to Creedence Clearwater Revival. John Fogerty, one of the band's members, wrote the song, and it was released in 1969. The song was written after his discharge from the National Guard. It's an amalgamation of different pieces of different songs he was working on at the time. The line that every one knows, "rollin' on the river", comes from a Will Rogers movie.
